The Three Main Types of Mainstream Pool Tables
Pool tables are far from uniform. Just like coffee is categorized as Americano or Italian, the main types can be divided into:
American Pool Tables:Featuring a large pocket design, commonly found in bars and entertainment venues. The standard size is 1.8 x 0.9 meters, suitable for 8-ball or 9-ball games. The tablecloth is typically made of a wool blend.
English Pool Tables:Also known as snooker tables, larger (3.6 x 1.8 meters), with smaller pocket curvature. The table surface is made of combed wool fabric. The official table for professional tournaments.
Chinese Pool Tables: Between the two (2.8 x 1.5 meters), featuring a unique star-pattern design and special rubber pads for the pockets, making them more suitable for Asian body types.
A Hidden Fourth Choice
Besides the traditional classifications, modern pool tables have also developed… Special Types:
Folding Billiard Table: Featuring a hydraulic cue design, it folds down to a thickness of only 30cm, suitable for small apartments.
Children's Teaching Table: 30% smaller, equipped with anti-collision edging and safety cues.
Outdoor Waterproof Model: The tabletop uses composite materials, resistant to UV rays and humid environments.
III. Golden Rules for Choosing a Billiard Table
Consider three dimensions when choosing a billiard table:
Space Suitability: Leave at least 1.5 meters of space around the table. American billiard tables require a 25㎡ room, while snooker tables require over 40㎡.
Frequency of Use: For home use, choose a model with a slate thickness of 4cm or more. For commercial use, a thicker slate of 5cm or more is needed for durability.
Maintenance Costs: English-style tablecloths require professional maintenance every six months. American-style tablecloths can be replaced by the user. Outdoor models require almost no maintenance.
